Practice modes

Study mode vs Timed mode for CELPIP practice

Learn when to use Study mode (explanations, replay) vs Timed mode (real pace). Two free CELPIP tests — no subscription, no fake CLB score.

MockMaple lets you practise CELPIP in Study mode or Timed mode. Study mode is for learning — replay Listening, revisit answers, and open explanations. Timed mode is for rehearsal — real sequence and clocks, with review after you submit. Start with two free tests; packs are one-time (CAD), not a subscription. We do not give a validated CELPIP or CLB score.

The practical answer

Study mode helps you learn with Listening replay, answer review and explanations. Timed mode helps you rehearse with clocks and a forward sequence; review comes after submission. Choose a mode when you start an attempt. To use the other mode, start a new attempt.

What each mode is for

Use Study mode when you are still learning the task types. Use Timed mode when you need to feel the clock.

A simple sequence (no score promises)

  1. Baseline — Do one Timed section or a short Timed sit so you know what feels hard.
  2. Repair — Start a new attempt in Study mode on that weak skill. Replay, read explanations, and fix one habit.
  3. Prove — Start a new attempt in Timed mode on the same skill.
  4. Full sit — When ready, take a full Timed free test.

Speaking in Study vs Timed

Speaking needs a browser microphone.

  • Study mode: Record, replay, and review at your pace. Use this to build a clear structure for each of the eight tasks.
  • Timed mode: Keep the prep and response windows you will face on test day, then review after submit.

FAQ

Should I start in Study or Timed?
If you are new to the CELPIP format, start one skill in Study mode. If you already know the format, take a short Timed baseline first.
Is Timed mode the same as the real CELPIP?
Timed mode helps you rehearse pace and sequence. The official exam is separate — use CELPIP’s free resources for authentic samples from the test maker.
Do I get a CLB score from Timed mode?
No. You get answer-key accuracy for Listening and Reading, plus self-review guidance for Writing and Speaking. That is practice feedback, not a validated CELPIP or CLB level.
Can I switch modes on the same test?
The mode is fixed for each attempt. Follow the mode you chose for that attempt, then start a new attempt in the other mode if you want a different practice style.
Is there a subscription?
No. MockMaple sells one-time packs only.
